RIO VISTA — The Rio Vista Bridge over the Sacramento River is the largest and busiest of seven drawbridges owned and operated by Caltrans in the California Delta, and sits on State Route 12 – a major crossroads between the Sacramento Valley and the Bay Area.
In this Caltrans News Flash, meet the bridge tender of the Rio Vista Bridge who shows us how his job is critical to approximately 21,000 motorists who travel the bridge daily along with the numerous boaters and dozens of communities along the Sacramento River. He stops approaching vehicle traffic as he raises the vertical lift bridge to allow giant ships hauling freight to safely pass.
