OAKLAND – In the latest Caltrans News Flash, you'll see how we are using technology to help ease the commute in the Bay Area. The I-80 SMART Corridor project incorporates an integrated network of signs, sensors, cameras, signals and ramp meters communicating with each other to provide real-time traffic management. And the best part, it will help drivers get through the corridor in a more reliable period of time.
The I-80 SMART Corridor will change the way motorists drive on one of the busiest corridors in the Bay Area, a 20-mile stretch between the Carquinez Bridge and the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Caltrans is activating elements of the corridor project gradually to allow motorists time to adjust to the new system. The entire system should be active by Labor Day 2016.
