Date: May 16, 2016
SACRAMENTO – In this Caltrans News Flash, you'll join Caltrans for a powerful and inspiring look at the 26th annual Workers Memorial ceremony, where Caltrans honors its 184 fallen workers.
Each year, Caltrans workers face considerable hazards maintaining California's roads. The Workers Memorial is a tribute to those who gave their lives to build, maintain and keep California's transportation system safe. This year unfortunately added yet another Caltrans employee to those killed while on the job. Oscar Vargas, a 29-year employee, died on July 14, 2015 from injuries received after losing control of his truck while leaving a nighttime project in Imperial County.
