Featured Projects

Balsi Beam

To increase the safety of field workers and motorists at highway
projects and to enhance the efficiency of those projects, Caltrans,
with support from FHWA, has created a mobile work zone
protection device known as the Balsi Beam.

Crash Testing of the Aesthetic Bridge Rail

An aesthetic bridge rail, known as the Type 90, consists of
a tube steel post and beam system anchored to a reverse-
slope concrete curb, with 3-m post spacing.

Long-life Pavement Rehabilitation Strategies (LLPRS)

The LLPRS program will reduce the need for future repair projects and
ultimately save public resources for future generations of road users.

CalNail

CalNail is a web-based centralized repository of information for
those involved in the design, construction, maintenance, and
research of soil nailing infrastructure in California's highway.

Construction Analysis for Pavement Rehabilitation Strategies (CA4PRS)

CA4PRS software estimates how much pavement can be rehabilitated or
reconstructed under different traffic closure strategies, considering
project design and constraints and the number of lanes closed.
