GoCalifornia Construction Industry Capacity Expansion (ICE)
Aggregate Availability in California

To address California's future roadway infrastructure needs effectively and efficiently, several critical factors must be considered.  One of those factors is the identification of available materials from surface mining sources in California for use in the construction of infrastructure projects

In an effort to help better identify and locate public and privately owned aggregate material sources in California, Caltrans is providing the “Aggregate Availability” map (Map Sheet 52,Updated 2006) from the California Geological Survey. The map compares the forecasted 50-year demand for construction aggregate to the currently permitted construction aggregate resources for 31 resource areas in California.

Map Sheet 52 provides a general overview of aggregate resources in the state. For specific planning purposes, users should refer to the individual Mineral Land Classification reports for each area.  These reports are referenced in the Map Sheet 52 text and can be found at: http://www.consrv.ca.gov/CGS/minerals/mlc/index.htm

If you have any questions regarding the GoCalifornia ICE Program, please contact Robert Effinger (Caltrans) at robert_effinger@dot.ca.gov.

California Aggregate Map

The maps to the right identify individual quarry sites (based on material type) for northern, central and southern California.

While these maps do not endorse the use of one mining facility over another, they do provide land use decision planners, developers, and the public with a tool to locate material sources as they relate to specific project proposals that could benefit from a nearby facility.

These maps can be viewed as a pdf and are sized for plotting at 36” x 48”.  A table containing the quarry name, owner, and address is also available by selecting the Ownership Information link to the right. The data source for these maps is the Office of Mine Reclamation, Department of Conservation.
