California Highway Incident Management Summit
Thank you to the presenters and attendees that helped make the Highway Incident Management Summit a success. The event drew over 100 participants from transportation, law enforcement, fire, ambulance, coroner, local agencies, towing and media industries. The Director of Caltrans and the Commissioner of CHP expressed their goal of clearing highway incidents within 90 minutes. This conference was to foster a commitment from other transportation and public safety responders statewide to improve coordination between all responders. The joint strategies that the group identified include developing interoperable communication systems, establishing interagency protocols and agreements, joint training and debriefs, standard terminology, increased personnel & equipment availability, and legislation enabling quick-clearance.
These improvements involve increases in resources and efficiency as well as a definite commitment by all parties to make progress. Caltrans and CHP are working on follow-up meetings to continue the progress made at the Riverside Summit.

The California Highway Incident Management Summit is to bring greater awareness to all incident responders on the need to reduce the effects of incidents on the highway system and to improve coordinated action with the key participants in incident management.
Who Should Attend:
The California Highway Incident Management Summit is for responders to highway incidences. Participants include Tow Service Contractors, Local Emergency Services Providers, County Coroners, Commercial Haulers, Hazardous Material Clean-up Contractors, and County Environmental Officials.
