Transportation planning
California Transportation Plan Trends and Demographic Study
The objectives for the CTP Trends and Demographic Study are to identify trends and population changes that will affect California's transportation system, travel behavior in California, and the development of policies and strategies. The findings will be based upon emerging social, economic, and business trends and California's projected demographic composition and distribution as derived from the 2000 National Census.
The study will assist transportation planners and providers to develop strategies to address California's transportation needs in 2015 and 2025. The project will include issue papers, a final report, and a Geographic Information System tool to geographically display the projected population changes. The study is scheduled to be complete in early 2002.
Professor Elizabeth Deakin at the University of California, Berkeley developed the background papers for the first phase of the study. The issue papers are posted on the University of California Transportation Center's website at www.uctc.net/trends/. The concepts in these papers do not necessarily represent the position of the California Department of Transportation.
Professors Randall Crane and Abel Valenzuela, at the University of California, Los Angeles, are leading the research team examining the population changes and analyzing specific transportation trends and issues that will impact California over the next 20 years.
Future Phases will be available on-line when completed.
