California Department of Transportation

California Transportation Investment System (CTIS)

Background

In December of 1998, the California Transportation Plan team comprised of Caltrans planning and regional agency partners staff identified the need to integrate existing long-range plans for both the State and regional transportation planning agencies by developing a map, using GIS software, of the existing (current and funded projects) and resulting (planned projects) transportation system. The CTIS GIS Tool (1.1) was released in January 2001 for ESRI’s GIS ArcView 2.0 desktop software. CTIS Version 2.0 was completed November 2006 and used ArcView 3.3 format. CTIS 2.0 included technical enhancements, a streamlined interface, and updated datasets that can be imported by individual ArcGIS mxd files, GIS shapefiles of the CTIS datasets and layer files, and are available for download.
