Construction Starts on New State Route 99 Interchange in Sutter County
SUTTER COUNTY - Caltrans and local officials broke ground today on a much-needed interchange at the junction of State Routes 99 and 113 south of Yuba City, marking another major step to relieve congestion and increase safety along the SR-99 between Yuba City and Sacramento.
"This investment in our transportation infrastructure builds a better, safer future for Sutter County residents and businesses," said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty.
The new interchange will replace stoplights that were installed as part of the SR-99 Tudor Bypass in 2010.
The bulk of the $19.4 million project's funding -- $17.8 million -- comes from Proposition 1B, the 2006 voter-approved transportation bond. Since its passage, nearly $15 billion in Proposition 1B funds have been put to use statewide.
The new interchange is expected to open by the end of 2014.
During construction, motorists will not be able to enter East Tudor Road from SR-99 for about a year, and Caltrans is advising drivers to use the Garden Highway as an alternate route. A section of SR-99 between Wilson Road and O’Banion Road also will be narrowed from four lanes to two lanes until mid-May.
Caltrans reminds motorists to Slow for the Cone Zone when driving through the construction area.
