Please note: This site is only for the filing of claims against Caltrans that occurred in District 1.

Before you file a claim (for $5000, or less) against Caltrans, District 1, be sure the incident occurred within the following Counties: Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, or Mendocino. If the incident occurred in another county then find the appropriate District Office.

A claims form may be obtained by contacting the District 1 Claims Officer below, or you can download and print a copy (PDF 140K). Please print and return all pages of the completed claim form. You may also download these helpful instructions for completing the claim form (PDF 22 KB).

Government Code Section 935.7 authorizes the Department of Transportation to adjust and pay claims that are not in excess of $5,000 without prior presentation and approval of the Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board.
