All Lanes of I-5 near Balboa Avenue to Close Intermittently on Sunday Morning
SAN DIEGO—All lanes of northbound and southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) between Clairemont Drive and Balboa Avenue will close intermittently for up to 10 minutes on Sunday from 6 - 8:30 a.m. Construction crews will be installing additional power lines across the freeway that are needed for the Mid-Coast Trolley Project.
The work includes the full closure of the northbound I-5 Balboa Avenue off-ramp from 3 - 10 a.m.
Motorists traveling on northbound I-5 to Morena Boulevard can go around the work area by exiting at Clairemont Drive/Mission Bay Drive, heading eastbound on Clairemont Drive, then turning right on Denver Street, right on Ingulf Street, and then right onto Morena Boulevard. They can then travel north to Balboa Avenue.
Utility relocation efforts have been underway for some time, most of the work occurs at night. To complete the job as quickly as possible and with minimum disruption to traffic and the surrounding communities, workers need to occasionally close the northbound I-5 Balboa Avenue off-ramp.
To help the public navigate through construction areas, Caltrans is providing real-time closure information to Waze, a free navigation app for smartphones and tablets.
