Cover photo: Caltrans is boring the Devil's Slide Tunnels Project beneath San Pedro Mountain, south of San Francisco, to bypass an area of State Route 1 prone to landslides. Crews have bored through half of the
30-foot-wide and 4200-foot-long Devil's Slide tunnels to connect the already completed twin bridges on the north end. State Route 1 will be realigned at the southern end to provide a safe transition into and out of the tunnels. The two tunnels will provide a safe, dependable highway between Pacifica and Montara once completed in 2011.
